It’s arguably the most famous ‘gunk-clearing’ advanced facial on the market – perfect for getting your skin event-ready – but there’s plenty you probably don’t know about HydraFacial. Alice visited the brand’s London Flagship to chat with education and training director Lauren Gibson to find out more…
HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment that involves three main steps: deep cleansing, extraction and hydration. Recommended every four to six weeks for maintenance (or before a big event), it is designed to be hyper-personalised to your complexion’s needs.
The technology pairs a pen-like device with tailored tips for each treatment stage, alongside concentrated serums that are ‘pushed’ into your skin to boost their effects. As well as clearing your skin of dirt and excess oils by removing dead skin cells (the gunk that so many people pose with afterwards!), it will also give you a refreshed and hydrated glow post-treatment.
So, what sets HydraFacial apart from other advanced facials? Read on and watch the video below to find out more:
Often when we talk about skin-cleansing facials, we think about ‘pushing cream around our faces and then cleansing it off,’ says Gibson. That’s not the case with HydraFacial. It uses vortex fusion technology, powered by water, that ‘really gets in there’, and (gentle) vacuum power to not only pull the gunk out of your skin, but also push beneficial product in. Importantly – as Gibson stresses – this ‘push-and-pull’ experience operates a ‘closed loop’ system that means the gunk taken out the skin and the antioxidants and boosters being pushed in, are kept separate.
It doesn’t stop there either. To give your skin a deeper refresh, the treatment’s first stage finishes with some gentle mechanical exfoliation (courtesy of another tailored tip), paired with your choice of exfoliating booster.
If you struggle with breakouts, there’s something quite satisfying (and very tempting) about having a go popping out your blackheads or whiteheads at-home. But, that’s often painful, ineffective and potentially skin damaging (so please try to avoid the temptation)! Instead, HydraFacial offers a pain-free extraction process, using a special tip and a salicylic acid booster, which together are specifically designed to unclog pores.
In fact, HydraFacial even has clinical research backing its ability to help treat the appearance and development of acne over a course of treatments. So, it’s a tried-and-trusted way to treat and prevent blemishes.
There’s a reason why so many ‘tweakment insiders’ recommend HydraFacial for before big events – it gives you an impressive instant glow. In fact, here at TTG Towers, we’ve seen for ourselves the radiance-boost your complexion can get straight off the treatment bed. But, most importantly, it doesn’t fade by the time you get home.
‘That glow can last anywhere from up to five to seven to 14 days, depending on your lifestyle,’ says Gibson. ‘That’s because we’ve taken off those dead skin cells that give that dull, dehydrated appearance.’
HydraFacial doesn’t just treat one thing either – it’s designed to address many of our main skin concerns. That makes it a great tweakment for all complexions.
‘We’ve got over 16 different boosters (depending on your location) – which are a bit like the serum step of a routine,’ says Gibson. ‘So if you’ve got a concern of fine lines and wrinkles or maybe underlying inflammation or redness, your HydraFacialist can pick a booster that’s going to be best for you.’
That also means that those with sensitive skin can benefit from HydraFacial too. There’s a ‘peel sensitive’ option available, and even special partnership boosters, such as those with Dr Dennis Gross and J Lo Beauty, to really tailor your results. At the end of the treatment, there’s the addition of LED light therapy as well, which helps further activate the booster ingredients you’ve chosen.
The final step of HydraFacial is all about saturating the skin with hydration, as well as other skin-benefitting ingredients. But, best of all, this effect is not just at a superficial level. ‘Depending on the booster that is used, [HydraFacial] puts hydration (and other protective ingredients) right down into the bottom layers of the skin,’ says Gibson. ‘So as those new skin cells move up, they are making sure that your complexion stays plump and hydrated.’
Why’s that important you ask? ‘A more hydrated skin is going to allow you to wear makeup easier, and if you’re having other treatments, they are going to settle better,’ explains Gibson.
As we’ve reported already, the rise of counterfeit devices is a massive concern right now. But, never fear. HydraFacial want to ensure you always get ‘the real deal’. If you go to ‘Find a Provider’ on the HydraFacial website, you can search for a clinic and check they are accredited. That will ensure they will be following the right protocols, using the correct products, and have had the correct training.
The latest development from HydraFacial – Syndeo – also means it’s even simpler for your practitioner to maximise your treatment results. In particular, Syndeo is Wi-Fi enabled (making it one of the first energy-based devices to have this features). That means the device can be easily kept up-to-date, with new updates and protocols ensuring you are always getting the most efficient HydraFacial treatment for your time and money.
