AviClear Review: ‘I Feel A Lot More Confident. My Friends & Family Can See The Difference Too!’

22nd July 2025

Acne and acne scarring are notoriously difficult to treat, with many of us left to fight each blemish individually or relying on prescription medication whenever they raise their annoying (white)heads. However, there is now a long-lasting tweakment solution, says the consultant dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto. It’s called AviClear – the world’s first FDA-cleared laser treatment specifically designed to tackle acne.

Below, Dr Mahto shares the brilliant results she has achieved using the AviClear laser, with the happy patient feedback and the before-and-afters to prove it…

A quick refresher: how does Aviclear work

Created by Cutera, the AviClear laser uses a unique 1726 nm wavelength to gently and precisely target the root cause of your breakouts, instead of just treating the surface symptoms.

“That’s what makes AviClear different, because the specific wavelengths of light that it uses target the sebaceous glands in your skin,” explains Dr Mahto. “The sebaceous glands are the unit that aren’t working properly in acne-prone individuals.”

This means that AviClear is better placed than previous lasers – which were not specifically targeting the sebaceous glands as an acne source – to not just banish your blemishes (however severe they may be), but also help you avoid future breakouts too, with long-lasting results.

The expert view: why Aviclear stands out as an acne treatment

“I’ve now had the AviClear laser for 14 to 15 months and it has given an additional option to my acne patients,” explains Dr Mahto. “Previously, the only real option for severe acne was Isotretinoin or Roaccutane [prescription retinoids], which you would have to immediately jump to. There was never an in-between option. AviClear gives us a drug-free option and in the form of a laser that can potentially have similar effects to isotretinoin for treating severe acne, which is pretty incredible.”

Who can benefit the most from the treatment?

“The AviClear laser is FDA-cleared for mild, moderate and severe acne, so you can use the treatment on anyone who has acne. It doesn’t matter what skin type they have or what age they are,” reveals Dr Mahto. That’s great news not only for spotty teenagers (who might resist using topical treatments regularly) but also adult acne patients who might have been struggling with their skin for decades.

“I have a group of patients who have had long-standing chronic acne, and their treatment has previously involved multiple courses of all sorts of medications, Isotretinoin included, and [as can be unfortunately common when relying on topical treatments] their acne has relapsed,” affirms Dr Mahto. “That’s made them particularly interested in alternative solutions like AviClear. Then, there’s the other group of patients who are interested because they don’t want to jump straight to hormones in the first place.”

What do Dr Mahto’s acne patients say about AviClear?

You can see the impressive one-year-on results for one of Dr Mahto’s patients, Shahin, below, and while his acne hasn’t totally vanished, it’s clear to see that its severity has been significantly reduced by the treatment, especially around his cheeks.

“It was amazing how inflammatory his acne was at the beginning – how red and cystic and painful it was for him. But, even by the end of the second and third sessions of AviClear you could see his inflammatory burden had reduced significantly.

“I feel a lot more confident now,” reveals Shahin. “My friends and family have also all told me how much better my skin is looking.”

Another (unverified) AviClear patient even commented on The Tweakments Guide Instagram celebrating the treatment, saying “I’ve had it and it works, I’m 4 months [post-treatment] currently.”

So, the results really can be seen and believed!
