toxins, or any anti-wrinkle injection will have only a short-term effect. Exactly how long it will last varies from person to person, and depends on how your body metabolises the toxin but the norm is anything from three to six months.
In order for muscles to contract, nerves release a chemical messenger at the junction where the nerve endings meet muscle cells. toxins and other anti-wrinkle injections block the signals from the nerves to the muscles by disabling the nerve receptors. The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles caused by the movement of that muscle to relax and soften.
However, over a period of three to six months, new receptor cells will develop and movement will return to the muscles.
As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles on the skin over the muscle begin to reappear and need to be treated again. However there are various things that can influence how long your toxins will last.
How do you know when you need a toxins refresher? You’ll first start to notice the return of the muscle movement in the area and then you’ll start to see the return or deepening of the wrinkle, then you know it’s time to book another appointment.
