How To Improve Your Jawline – Here’s What I’ve Tried

11th June 2024
Updated: 30th October 2025

Intrigued by what I’ve tried to improve my jawline over the past decade? It’s mostly tweaks like Ultrasound or RF needling for firming and tightening loose skin, and jaw-defining injections of fillers or fat. I was going to say little and often, but none of these things are that little, and I don’t have them that often. But, as you can see from the pictures below, they have each made a noticeable difference…

1) Energy treatments for slackening skin

With age, our skin loses collagen and elastin and becomes less firm. To counteract this,  I’ve had a lot of energy treatments to help firm and tighten by amping up collagen production. Like what ,though?

Ultrasound

I’ve had three rounds of Ultherapy over the years (2013, 2015, 2018). I’m sure it has helped, but because it’s such a slow-burn of a treatment I don’t have any before and afters, sorry. I’ve also tried Sofwave (2022), which definitely made a difference.

Radiofrequency microneedling

I’ve tried many types of RF needling – from Intracel, way back before RF needling became such a ‘thing’, via Secret RF (2020). One that had a huge effect was Profound, which I did with Dr Sophie Shotter in 2021 – you can see the definition it gave me in these pictures, three months after the treatment. Since then I’ve tried Sylfirm (2023)  but I’ve only done a couple of them (you need at least three).

Plasma and Endolift

I’ve also tried Endolift (November 2020) which should have made a difference, but as you can see from the 3D before and after images, there is very little change. NeoGen Plasma worked wonders for my skin quality and pigmentation and I’m sure it achieved a degree of tightening, too, but the before and afters aren’t the best, sorry.

2) Reshaping my jawline and chin with fillers – and fat

As we age, we lose bone mass from all over our skulls, which comes as a big surprise to many of us. What that means for our jawlines is that our jaw becomes a bit shorter, and the edge of it starts to blur into our neck.

What to do? Well, I’ve had a fair bit of filler along my jawline and in my chin over the years. Look at the change in the photo below. This was filler with Dr Tapan Patel at the Phi Clinic and you can read the full article about this 10ml full face treatment. It was a great result, which lasted well for a year. He still brings up the images when he presents at international conferences!

18 months later (2019), I had fat transfer in my chin and jawline with Dr Tunc Tiryaki, which gave an amazingly strong and long-lasting result. More recently, I’ve had jawline filler as needed with @drrajaquilla (2021) and Dr Sophie Shotter (2022).

Softening tight neck muscles with toxin

I also have toxin injections every three months with Dr Sophie Shotter into the platysma, the sheet of muscle that runs up the neck and fastens just above the jawbone. Why? Because reducing the tension on that area allows it to soften so you get better definition around the jaw.

Why do I think I need all these treatments?

Before someone asks why I keep having more treatment, it’s because even when these procedures give a great result, it doesn’t last forever. The ageing clock ticks relentlessly on. And while I absolutely accept this as a fact and am very happy with my face… I then choose to subject it to more treatment.

Should I have had a lower facelift?

Whenever I write about jawlines, loads of you drop me a line asking, ‘Why bother with all these expensive tweakments when the only thing that works for the lower face is a surgical lift?’

I agree that nothing will make as much difference as a lower facelift, particularly if you have heavy jowls and a sagging neck, but those aren’t my issues. As you can see from the pictures above, most tweakments I’ve tried have made a discernible improvement.

I don’t think I needed a lower facelift 10 years ago and I don’t think I need one now. Or at least, not yet.

So how is my jawline holding up now? Here’s me at age 18, and last week.
