We all want clear, radiant skin and there is a mass of treatments to help get us there (and I’ve tried a lot of them). But, there aren’t many that can do this in a completely agreeable way that a) doesn’t hurt b) has no downtime c) gives you a quick instant glow-up and d) gives decent collagen-boosting and reduced redness that builds over a course of sessions. But here’s one that does just that. Introducing Laser Genesis.
I’ve known about Cutera’s Laser Genesis treatment for a while but became hugely curious after hearing a whole bunch of aesthetic practitioners talking about how much they and their patients loved the treatment, because of the results it gives, and how it suits everyone whatever their age or skin tone. Plus, it’s entirely non-invasive and un-scary so it’s not going to put anyone off.
I booked in to try it at Dr John Quinn’s Quinn Clinics in Bristol. Here’s my review and everything you need to know about Laser Genesis – the glow-boosting laser that’s totally pain-free. That includes: does it work, does it hurt, and how much is it – the three most common questions I get asked!
What is Laser Genesis?
Laser Genesis is a 20-minute treatment that uses advanced Cutera technology – a 1064nm laser – to gently heat the dermis (the skin’s middle layer). This heat stimulates collagen production, which (I hardly need to tell you, do I?) is key to keeping the skin looking plump and youthful. Collagen naturally decreases as we age, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture. By encouraging your skin to produce more of this vital protein, Laser Genesis can help reverse some of these signs of ageing. More collagen and less redness, yes please!
As well as stimulating the fibroblasts in our skin to produce more collagen, a Laser Genesis treatment reduces redness and the appearance of rosacea, minimises large pores, improves the look of acne scars and little irregularities in the skin surface and evens out your overall skin tone.
Who is it for?
It’s safe on all skin types and tones! And, whether you’re in your twenties or your sixties, Laser Genesis has something to offer. Here’s why the safe and painless treatment is perfect for all skin types and ages, leaving you with clearer, healthier-looking skin:
For younger skin: Say goodbye to acne, redness, and enlarged pores—with zero downtime or discomfort.
For more mature skin: Target persistent redness and add it to your skincare routine for smoother, more even-toned skin.
What does Laser Genesis feel like?
The treatment itself feels like… almost nothing. My face was carefully cleaned, to shift sunscreen and makeup, I donned the laser goggles for eye protection, and braced myself – laser treatments, even if they’re billed as ‘gentle’ or ‘a sprinkle of monsoon rain’ can be a bit hot and prickly.
With Laser Genesis all I could feel was a gentle warmth, a bit like sitting in the sun, as the laser was moved over my face, gently heating the skin’s surface. No noisy zaps, no flickering pinches… it was really very relaxing.
“It’s a tiny spot size on the laser and it is firing so fast so you don’t appreciate it as pain. You just feel it as a slight heat,” explains Dr John Quinn. I can see on the video that it looks like nothing, too – the laser uses a near-infrared wavelength for this treatment, which doesn’t show up as a flashing red light on camera.

What are the immediate and long-term benefits?
One of the most exciting things about Laser Genesis is the immediate post-treatment glow. I’d thought I might look a bit flushed at first, but my skin looked terrific. As Dr Quinn says, “It does what it says on the tin!” I know that I’ll need a bunch more treatments to see the improvements in firmness and texture that come from enhanced collagen production, but it’s a good start.
The final word
This treatment suits anyone who has the time to do 4-6 treatments, 2-3 weeks apart, in order to improve the look and feel of their skin. As there’s no downtime, won’t interfere with anyone’s life however busy their social schedule either.
Laser Genesis costs from £150 per treatment at Quinn Clinics, with four to six treatments recommended for the best results. Find out more here.
