Pigmentation. This is a big one. There is a lot to say, I’m only going to touch on the surface of it here, but I’m talking about the kind of pigmentation that is sitting on the surface of your skin. That means brown marks, freckles, the bits that cluster together in age spots. Our eyes are really good at discerning this in other people. It’s one of the ways we tell people’s age: is the tone of their skin even throughout or is it mottled and blotchy?
What you can do about pigmentation? There is a good deal you can do. You can start with skincare, you can start with the ingredients that stop the skin making so much pigment in the first place. You can keep on using ingredients that will resurface the skin to get rid of some of the pigmentation that has built up.
Or you can move on to tweakments. The classic tweakments for treating pigmentation are the light based ones like IPL, that’s intense pulsed light, or laser. Or you could try skin peels, or you could try microneedling. Those also help with pigmentation.
As for melasma, this is a specific type of pigmentation that is driven by hormones, that is a whole other topic so I am going to talk about that another time. There is a lot more about pigmentation on my website. There is a huge fact sheet that you can wade through if you want to get into the real nitty gritty of it. Hop on over to thetweakmentsguide.com and you’ll find all that there, along with a massive fact sheet all about pigmentation and how to treat it. I hope you find something that is helpful.
