What is it and what’s the USP? This wonderfully homegrown natural skin and body care brand is the brainchild of solicitor and aromatherapist Cecilia Rathe and her daughter Claire Huntley, who set it up after Cecilia suffered skin cancer and was looking for products to help heal her skin after treatment. They pride themselves on producing products that are natural, effective, stylish and sustainable. Packed with vitamin enriched plant oils and organic essential oils, each product is carefully chosen for its skincare benefits and most importantly are not packed in wasteful fancy boxes. Instead all the ingredients are printed on the label.
Hero product? The Frankincense and Rose Moisturiser (£21.50, maryelizabethbodycare.com) which contains the two essential oils Cecilia used in the first products she made after being treated for skin cancer.
Why the name? It’s a combination of Cecilia and Claire’s middle names. Two traditional British names which reflect the traditional, yet stylish feel of the brand.
How new is it? It launched in mid 2012 but has already accrued a Bronze Award in the Freefrom Skincare Aware 2013 and a Green Parent Natural Beauty Award 2013.
I’d try… Difficult to choose but the Juniper and Jojoba Hand Cream (£9.50) is just heavenly — it sinks in right away leaving no residue, and smells reassuringly of Chamomile — and the Spearmint and Tea Tree Nurture Balm (£6.50) is a great all-rounder.
