What Is The Mosaic Skinboosters Trend And Should You Try It?

We all know skin-boosters can help hydrate and revive the skin and generally make it healthier – but which one should you choose? Polynucleotides? Profhilo? Something else altogether? Here at TTG we’d always suggest asking a practitioner which skinboosters will suit your face best – so I was intrigued when I heard that some practitioners are mixing and matching different products – in one treatment.

What Does ‘Mosaic Skinboosters’ Even Mean?

I’ve tried various skin boosters over the years – from Belotero Revive (around my eyes, in my lip lines, and my cheeks), via Profhilo (here’s a video of Profhilo treatment with Dr Pam Benito) to Skinboosters in my hands – and I’ve even had a treatment where various skin-stimulating injectables were mixed in the same syringe and injected all at once (that one was P3, aka the Champagne Facial, at the Revere Clinic), but I’ve never heard of using different products in different parts of the face at the same time until Dr Vicky Dondos casually mentioned that this was what she offers her patients, as if she was putting together a mosaic of different skinboosters on, say, cheeks, forehead, and around the eyes.

Why Mix and Match Your Skinboosters?

“I’m so allergic to hype,” says Dr Dondos. “My patients come in saying ‘My friend is having x, should I have it – or that other thing I’ve read about?’, and they’re quite relieved when I explain to them that I will use what is right for them, rather than what’s trending online.”

She explains that all these skin-reviving and regenerating products have certain advantages, so which one to use depends on what she is trying to achieve with a patient’s skin.

A flexible approach

Dr Dondos is not the only person thinking this way. “The concept of ‘mosaic skin boosters’ aims to use the best product in each part of the face, to achieve the best result for our patients ultimately,” says Dr Nestor Demosthenous who leads The Mayfield Clinic in Edinburgh. “The goal is to regenerate, stimulate and hydrate skin. To regenerate, I use polynucleotides for the upper and lower eyelids. To stimulate collagen I reach for HArmonyCa for the cheeks and jawline, and then finish the treatment by using Volite which will hydrate skin for six to nine months.”

Which Skinbooster Goes Where?

“Skinboosters and polynucleotides each have advantages,” says Dr Dondos, “but because classic skinboosters are based on hyaluronic acid, even though they’re very fluid, I won’t use them around the eyes just in case they create any puffiness.”

“Profhilo absolutely still has a place and many patients say they find it gives a quick hit which surprises me [because seeing full results usually takes three months]. They see a nice glow, and deep hydration, especially on the neck.”

“If it’s not lasting for them, I’ll try polynucleotides like Newest [which has hyaluronic acid blended with the polynucleotides], or Teoxane’s Redensity One.”

Dr Dondos loves using Redensity One on the forehead for patients who prefer not to have wrinkle-relaxing toxin injections like Botox. “I know when they come back, their forehead lines are not as deep, it really helps, and it can be added very quickly during a treatment for, say, polynucleotides or Profhilo.”

What About the Cost?

Given that most skinboosters cost from around £400 a session, depending on where you’re based, this sort of mix and match approach can surely end up quite expensive, even if it is gee-ing up your fibroblasts to the max and creating better hydration and more collagen all over your face. “Yes,” says Dr Dondos, “but we always make a plan with people so that they know, over a year, which treatments they could do at which point, and what the maintenance costs will be.”
