Polynucleotides Without The Needles? Meet The New Skincare Trend

17th March 2026

It’s no understatement to say that polynucleotides have been the buzziest of buzzy tweakments recently, but could you really dodge the needles and still see the benefits by using them in your skincare instead? Or even supercharge your injectable results by using them before and after your treatments? That’s what a growing number of skincare brands are offering, complete with promises of smoother, brighter-looking skin. We investigate…

What are polynucleotides and why are they a tweakment favourite?

Polynucleotides are long chains of nucleotides – the building blocks of DNA and RNA. In the world of tweakments, they’re usually sourced from purified fish DNA (fully safe and refined, don’t worry!), and they are then injected into the skin to help stimulate collagen and elastin production, improve hydration, and accelerate recovery after procedures like fillers, laser treatments, or chemical peels.

Why are they one of the most popular tweakment of the past year? It’s all to do with the clever little skin quality boost they provide that’s super natural-looking. In fact, they give your skin that plump and refreshed ‘I woke up like this’ look so many of us are looking for.

And now they are in skincare too?

That’s right – polynucleotides aren’t just for injectables anymore. First made popular in K Beauty serums, PDRN is the ingredient to look out for (or more specifically, sodium DNA on the ingredient’s list). That’s the most popular version for skincare, and like the injections, it is also commonly salmon-sperm derived. Brands have been using it in serums, creams, and microneedling boosters, with renewed interest now that the link has been made with the trending tweakment, too. These products aim to replicate some of the cellular repair benefits of injectables – namely, hydration, elasticity, and skin repair. That means you can tap into the magic of polynucleotides at home, in a daily, no-needles form.

What are the benefits of polynucleotide skincare?

1. Hydration

One of the standout benefits of polynucleotides is hydration. These molecules are brilliant at attracting and holding water in your skin, so your complexion feels plump, soft, and bouncy.

2. Skin repair and recovery

Polynucleotides are essentially your skin’s little repair squad. They’re ideal for stressed, tired skin because they help calm inflammation. Think of them as giving your cells a gentle nudge to get to work – repairing minor damage, improving texture, and restoring overall skin health.

3. Fine lines and elasticity

Polynucleotides encourage fibroblasts (your skin’s collagen-making cells) to get busy, which can smooth fine lines and give a subtle lift over time. While the effect is much subtler than injectables, as they don’t work deep in your skin, consistent use can make skin feel firmer and look more lifted.

4. Gentle for sensitive skin

One of the biggest perks of polynucleotide skincare is that it’s low irritation, because polynucleotides mimic naturally occurring molecules in your body. That means you can get repair, hydration, and anti-ageing benefits without the dryness or redness that comes with strong retinoids or acids  – even on sensitive or reactive skin.

5. Post-procedure support

Polynucleotide skincare can also be a great addition to post-treatment skincare routines. Whether you’ve had a chemical peel, laser session, or filler, the creams can calm inflammation and accelerate recovery, which means they can essentially help extend the benefits of your tweakments.

Any drawbacks?

As exciting as polynucleotide skincare is, it’s worth keeping expectations realistic. Like many buzzy skincare ingredients, the benefits are real – but they come with a few caveats.

1. Not a full substitute for tweakments

This is the big one. You might be dreaming of getting the same results from your polynucleotide skincare as you get from injectables (and all without needles), but while these creams can support hydration and skin repair, they can’t fully replicate what happens when polynucleotides are injected directly into the skin. Injectables deliver the ingredient into deeper layers where it can more actively stimulate regeneration. Skincare, on the other hand, works primarily on the upper layers of the skin, so the effects tend to be more subtle.

2. Results take time

Again, unlike injectable tweakments, where results can appear relatively quickly, topical polynucleotide skincare works gradually. Because the products rely on supporting the skin’s natural repair processes, improvements in hydration, texture, and elasticity usually build over weeks or months of consistent use. If you’re expecting an overnight transformation, you may be disappointed –  but for long-term skin health, patience pays off.

Five polynucleotide skincare products to know?

1. Plinest Care, price to be confirmed

Plinest

The TTG really sat up and took notice when Plinest – aka a leading polynucleotide injectable brand – announced it was going to launch polynucleotide skincare. So, if you want to try a brand that’s super expert-backed, watch this space as it’s set to launch soon! We did get a sneak peek at the products, and not only is sodium DNA high up on the ingredient list (a good sign it’s at a high percentage), but the polynucleotides are joined by proven actives such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin E for soft, smooth skin. Best of all, it isn’t just one product – there’s a whole range including a potent serum, day cream with SPF 20, and even a body cream (to help you look after your skin from head-to-toe!).

2. Vita Vitae Beauty Micro-Needling System, £89

Vita Vitae micro needling

In a clever attempt to get the polynucleotides a little further into your skin – without a trip to the treatment clinic – Vita Vitae Beauty has combined polynucleotide-containing serums with at-home microneedling.  The benefit of microneedling is that by creating tiny microchannels in your skin, the polynucleotides, plus the other great skincare ingredients, including hyaluronic acid and exosomes, are pushed closer to where they work best in the skin. And, the microtrauma triggers your skin’s healing response, which is good for collagen production too. You just have to know there are some small roller-based needles involved.

3. Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Serum, £24

Medicube pdrn

This viral K-beauty serum aims to get you results in just two weeks with 10,000ppm of salmon PRDN and a formula that focuses on both your skin barrier and collagen production. In fact, the formula pairs PDRN with five collagen-boosting peptides, niacinamide and adenosine, creating a multitasking serum that hydrates, brightens and helps smooth fine lines. The result is the sort of soft, glowing skin that always looks fresh in that ‘wow, I need less concealer today’ sort of way.

4. The Inkey List PDRN Serum, £18

Inkey List PDRN

For the vegans among you, definitely keep an eye on The Inkey List’s PDRN Serum. Not only is it super affordable – at £18 – but it also uses a plant-derived type of DNA instead of salmon, so you don’t have to miss out on trying a version of polynucleotide skincare. While you might worry the results won’t be as good (as with collagen supplements), the rave reviews disagree (as does the fact that it is currently in need of a restock on the website!). Powered by a 20,000 PPM vegan PDRN, those who have tried it adore how bouncy and smooth it makes their skin, and there are clinical studies to prove it.

5. Rodial Salmon DNA Water Oil, £150

Rodial serum

The ingredient list of Rodial’s shake-to-activate bi-phase treatment oil reads like a what’s-what of trending skincare ingredients. Not only is there salmon-derived PDRN for skin repair in the bottle, but also growth factors, exosomes and multiweight hyaluronic acid to really kickstart visible skin quality improvements. The claim is that your skin appears up to 10 years younger, with a reduction in wrinkle depth in eight weeks, which certainly sounds exciting (although, in less good news, the study was small, only interviewing 20 people).

The final word

Definitely watch this space as we predict plenty more tweakment-inspired skincare innovations to hit the market soon. Right now, the real power of polynucleotides probably still lives in professional treatments – so, if you want the full tweakment effect, it’s worth booking with one of TTG’s trusted polynucleotide practitioners. But, if you want to supercharge your results or just dip a toe into the technology, polynucleotide skincare is a great place to start.
