While ‘toxins’ has become a generically-used term for injections using botulinum toxin type A, it is actually the brand name for one type of this wrinkle-relaxing drug. It is a prescription-only medicine, meaning it must be prescribed by a qualified medical professional to each individual. 

Made by Allergan, toxins was the first drug to use botulinum toxin and has a long history of use in medicine for all sorts of indications such as neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), overactive bladders and chronic migraines. However, its powerful effect on frown lines and crow’s feet have made it a household name.
