For this week’s Tweak of the Week, I went to Neville’s in Belgravia, London, to visit medically-trained facialist Renee Lapino and try out Secret RF, a novel fractional radiofrequency micro-needling treatment from Cutera.
What’s the secret to tighter and better looking skin? Can one treatment really target fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and photoaging at the same time as tightening, with minimal discomfort or recovery time? As we age the quality of our skin diminishes. It becomes duller and more sallow and loses its vibrancy and elasticity. Sun damage causes discoloration and wrinkling, while the breaking down of collagen causes everything to sag. Demand for treatments which improve skin texture and appearance without significant downtime are on the rise. I went to visit London skin guru Renée Lapino at the Renée Lapino Clinic in Belgravia to try Cutera’s Secret RF treatment and find out.

This week, Alice discovers why more midlife men are turning to injectable fillers, and how this alters the way a practitioner will inject a face.
Why are more midlife men are turning to injectable fillers? If you ask Dr Benji Dhillon of the Define Clinic it is because they are realising just what impressive and natural-looking results you can get. The rise in male tweakments is definitely a thing – you may have seen some of the articles I’ve written in the national press about it over the years. As Dr Benji explains, it’s all about enhancing the masculine qualities of the face, which means a strong, well-balanced chin and a clean jawline.

There’s a new trend in aesthetic medicine for toning and strengthening muscles using electro-magnetic pulses, but can does it work? Alice tries StimSure.
There’s a big trend for tweakments that strengthen muscles using electro-magnetic pulses which can build abs, lift the butt, strengthen calves and firm up bingo wings… To try the new StimSure machine from Cynosure, I went to see Dr Joney de Souza who has one of the first machines in the UK. This week I’m looking at Profhilo—an injectable moisturiser designed to hydrate skin from the inside-out and address crepey skin, fine lines and wrinkles.
Why is Profhilo so popular? As we get older, the skin’s levels of hyaluronic acid start to go down. Hyaluronic acid is one of the things that keep skin looking plumped up and hydrated, so it’s no wonder that injectable moisturisers—which are made up of hyaluronic acid—are only getting more popular. There are a number of brands of injectable moisturiser out there, but Profhilo is the one that has caught people’s imagination. It’s not a filler, it doesn’t add volume to the face, but it improves the skin health and strength. One of its big selling points is that it requires far fewer injections than some other products, which is always attractive if you’re not keen on needles.

For this week’s Tweak of the Week, I went to see Dr Kate Goldie for lip enhancement with BELOTERO lips. Did it hurt? What do the results look like?
Is it possible to have your lips enhanced without ending up with a trout pout? If you are middle-aged, like me, the idea of lip treatment is very appealing to restore fullness and counteract the general collapse that is the hallmark of older lips – but I want my mouth to look in keeping with the rest of my face. I don’t want my lips to look startling, or enormous.

Microneedling sounds scary, but what does it actually involve? Alice tries the SkinPen Precision treatment.
Clinical microneedling is an increasingly popular treatment for all round improvement of the skin. Needling stimulates the wound-healing response in the skin, which results in the growth of new collagen which makes skin firmer, and improves skin hydration and reduces pigmentation and sun damage. It’s good for the face, the hands, and also for the neck and décolletage area.

Why is the Intraceuticals facial such a popular red-carpet choice for celebrities? Alice Hart-Davis went to try it, to find out.
If your skin is feeling dry and lacklustre, can it be coaxed into healthy, glowing, red-carpet-ready condition in the space of an hour?
The answer is – yes, with an Intraceuticals facial, which uses a spray of pressurised oxygen to drive a series of hydrating serums deep into the skin, to support skin health and and enhance its glow. I have tried this a number of times and am always impressed by the way it sculpts and lifts the contours of my face, as well as the super-deep hydration that it delivers.
How does filler in the tear trough help to disguise dark hollows beneath the eyes? Tweakments expert Alice Hart-Davis visits Dr Saleena Zimri to find out.
Sunken hollows beneath the eyes are the bane of many people’s lives and can give you an ‘always tired’ look. They come about due to a loss of volume in the under-eye area, also called the ‘tear trough’. Careful placement of a lightweight filler gel made from hyaluronic acid can fill in this sunken area and offset the appearance of hollowness.
Tear-trough work is all about creating a smooth junction between the lower eyelid and the cheek. It sounds simple enough, but it’s actually a rather tricky treatment to pull off successfully.
