Anti-pigmentation serums work to reduce hyperpigmentation by either preventing the formation of pigment in the skin (in the same way as vitamin C), by blocking the transfer of pigment from the melanocytes (where it’s made) to the keratinocytes (where it shows up), or by exfoliating the outermost layers of skin and allowing fresher skin to show up from inside. Some key anti-pigmentation ingredients include vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid and liquorice extract.
