Chemically exfoliating with alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic or mandelic acids is great for combatting signs of sun damage such as rough texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The chemical exfoliation has the additional benefits of hydrating your skin better, allowing the deeper and more even absorption of treatment products, and (in the case of glycolic acid) boosting the skin’s collagen production, making it firmer – of particular benefit to wrinkled skin. If your skin is burned, don’t use exfoliating ingredients – I’d hold off until your skin is less irritated. Use alpha hydroxy acids in exfoliating cleansers, acid toners, serums or masks.
