Alpha H Liquid Gold

Liquid chemical exfoliant that hydrates and gives glowing skin

£41.00

Free delivery for orders over £30

This has to be one of my all-time favourite products. It’s a liquid chemical exfoliant made with glycolic acid and how it works is that it dissolves the bonds that are holding dead skin cells onto the surface of the skin, to give you fresher, clearer skin. It will also, with consistent use (that means two or three times a week, max) soften fine lines and pigmentation and because it is an alpha hydroxy acid, it has a hydrating effect on the skin as well. So it’s a brilliant multi-tasker which delivers both immediate and long-term results.

You might think that this was an acid toner but it’s not, it’s much more powerful than that. Liquid Gold is a serious treatment product because it’s an exfoliant and a moisturiser and a toner all in one.

I would suggest using this as a treatment product twice a week, I really wouldn’t use it more than that. When you see the glow it gives, you’ll be tempted to use it more often, but there’s a fine line between getting the benefits of glycolic acid treatment and overdoing it, which stresses the skin and creates inflammation, which isn’t what you want.

Description

One of my all-time favourite products – a brilliant multi-tasker which delivers both immediate and long-term results.

It’s a liquid chemical exfoliant made with glycolic acid which dissolves the bonds holding dead skin cells onto the surface of your skin, to give you fresher, clearer skin. With consistent use (i.e 2-3 times a week, max) it will soften fine lines and pigmentation and it has a hydrating effect on the skin as well.

Apply to a clean dry face. Pop some of the product onto cotton wool,  then you wipe it round your face — I would avoid taking it too close to the eyes and the lips — and that’s it. Just leave it be. You don’t need to put a moisturiser on top, because the product has the capacity for moisturising your skin from the inside (also, moisturisers contain water, and putting water on top of this will neutralise the effects of the glycolic acid, so strange as it may seem you get a stronger result from it if you leave it to work on its own.

I would suggest using this twice a week, I really wouldn’t use it more than that. When you see the glow it gives, you’ll be tempted to use it more often, but there’s a fine line between getting the benefits of glycolic acid treatment and overdoing it, which stresses the skin and creates inflammation, which isn’t what you want.

Aqua, Alcohol denat, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Silk, Potassium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract.

  2. Very prompt delivery and great item

  3. I’ve used this product before when I purchased it on board a flight. It’s a great alternative to botox and really works. Use every other day for the first 3 months at night after cleansing. For quicker results moisturise in a morning after cleansing and not at night.

  4. Lovely product, good value, lasts for ages

  5. Have used this product since Easter and there is a definite improvement in my 73 year old skin. Looks fresher and tighter. Love it. Now can get it cheaper on Amazon I’ll be getting more.

FAQ ABOUT Alpha H Liquid Gold

Is Alpha-H Liquid Gold a retinol?

No, Alpha-H Liquid Gold is a glycolic acid exfoliant. It is not a retinol.

Is Alpha-H Liquid Gold good for acne?

This product wouldn’t be our first choice for acne – choose something with salicylic acid instead, as this acid is better at getting into the pores to clean out acne-causing bacteria, while also having an anti-inflammatory action on aggravated skin. Alpha-H Liquid Gold is better suited to those concerned with sun damage, pigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles.

How does Alpha-H Liquid Gold work?

The product’s 5% glycolic acid is the workhorse here – it gently exfoliates to clear dead skin and pollution build-up while simultaneously stimulating collagen production, resurfacing the skin for a revitalised complexion with better luminosity and tone.

Glycolic acid is also great at promoting hydration and moisture retention within the skin, which works towards building a stronger skin barrier. It also contains silk proteins and glycerin – both of which help prevent trans-epidermal water loss, so the skin maintains its moisture balance.

Finally, liquorice root extract adds antioxidant properties and helps regulate melanin production, adding to the product’s pigmentation-reducing abilities.

What is Alpha-H Liquid Gold used for?

Alpha-H Liquid Gold is a liquid chemical exfoliator with 5% glycolic acid. It’s used to reduce the signs of sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Can I use Alpha-H Liquid Gold in the morning?

It’s recommended to use Alpha-H Liquid Gold in the evening, not the morning. This is because glycolic acid increases the skin’s sensitivity to the sun, and this product contains a pretty hefty amount. Use on alternate nights, applying five drops per application. It shouldn’t be used more than three nights per week. Always use a high-protection, broad-spectrum sunscreen in the day when using this product.

Can you use Alpha-H Liquid Gold when pregnant?

Yes, the brand says the product is safe or pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Is Alpha-H Liquid Gold a toner?

Sort of. ‘Toner’ is a bit of an outdated skincare term which doesn’t really mean much anymore, but essentially yes, this is a product you swipe onto the skin after cleansing and before applying serums or moisturisers, and it works to improve the general ‘tone’ of the skin.

Can I use Alpha-H Liquid Gold with retinol?

Not one after the other on the same night, no. Depending on how much your skin can tolerate, use your retinol product on alternate nights to Alpha-H Liquid Gold. But we wouldn’t recommend introducing both to your routine at the same time, and if you do also use a retinol, step down to a smaller percentage while also using Liquid Gold. This is because both speed up cell turnover, so you could easily irritate and sensitise your skin.
