In the family tree of retinoids, the strongest type, up at the top, is retinoic acid. And down below you have retinol, which is a lot weaker. Then in the middle, you have retinaldehyde. New creations like this r-retinoate (has been bio-engineered in a Korean superlab) fuse together retinoic acid and retinol, to make a molecule which is very effective, yet easy for the skin to tolerate.

You can use this twice a day, it’s that gentle. It’s fine for sensitive skin and it doesn’t break down in daylight like many retinoids. It will definitely give you results.

Yes, they're absolutely worth the money. These brands – we call them clinical, medical-grade or cosmeceutical – have strong and effective products that can only be sold from clinics, so that your practitioner can advise what's best for you and how to use it, and then keep an eye on how you get on with the products, and adjust your regime accordingly. Medik8 actually also falls into this category – though it can be purchased from some skincare retailers, too – but it's a great brand with very effective products that a lot of practitioners like and sell to their patients.
