What are the best LED lamps for home use?

Hi, I prefer the Dermalux as it’s more flexible and you can use it on the body as well as the face. It has red, blue and near-IR wavelengths, so there’s no need to invest in more than one device. It also gets fab, measurable results. Remember that with LED the results come from cumulative exposure to the light so the more you do, the better the results. The other brand to look at who also offer medically certified home-use LED devices are Celluma, so take a look at them, too.

Does HIFU actually work or make a difference to the jawline area?

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. Yes, if you’re the right candidate. HIFU can’t tighten severely sagging skin, so it depends on the level of laxity.

Hi Alice, last year I had a bad experience with having filler. It left me in a very bad place mentally. Things are calmer for me now and I feel ready at least to talk to a doctor about continuing with treatment. My promise to myself is to only seek treatment from the top tier of practitioners in the UK. The problem is, there are so many that are seemingly excellent, but ultimately they will all have their own aesthetic as it comes down to the individual. Do you have any strategies for picking the right person? I imagine it comes down to meeting with a handful for a consultation but even then, how will I know? I am terrified of getting it wrong again.

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. I’m really sorry to hear you went through this. It seems to me that if you’re ‘terrified’ as you say, then it might not be wise to revisit this just now. Have you sought any psychological help for what happened last year? If you do want to talk to a doctor, one of the best ways to figure out who might be a good match for you is to look at their Instagram page and website gallery for before-and-after images. That way you can see what kind of work they do and how their patients look after treatment. Also, ask to see pictures of previous patients who have received the same specific filler treatment you’re thinking of getting. It sounds like you would benefit from a very empathetic practitioner, so pay attention to how much you feel listened to and understood, and how comfortable they make you feel. Trust your gut and remember, you’re never under any obligation to proceed with treatment.

Hello, could you let me know how a practitioner gets on your list please? Do they have to apply? I’m wondering what the criteria is before selecting from your recommendations. Also, what would you consider to be the best cheek filler for a 51 year old woman? Thanks.

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. Practitioners are either invited to apply by Alice or myself or if they want to be listed, they must provide a reference from two practitioners we already have listed on the site. The key thing is, we need to know that they do great work. All practitioners are registered with the appropriate governing medical body (GMC, NMC, GDC) and have a strong background and excellent professional reputation within medical aesthetics. Re your cheek filler – it’s less about which filler and more about who is injecting it. Find a practitioner near you and have a consultation.

Hi there, I’m looking at purchasing a LED home treatment. I’m 48 and am looking for something to brighten and help with broken capillaries and some congestion around the nose. I’m looking at buying the Current Body and the MZ Golden Face (so that I have near-red and blue light in two devices. Also looking at Deesse Pro at £1,400, or is it worth the splurge of the Dermalux, as I would rather invest a bit more now than end up buying all three in a year’s time. Would you recommend the investment?

Hi, I prefer the Dermalux as it’s genuine medical-grade equipment which those others you mention are not, and it’s more flexible and you can use it on the body as well as the face. It has red, blue, and near-IR wavelengths, so there’s no need to invest in more than one device. It also gets fab, measurable results. Remember that with LED the results come from cumulative exposure to the light so the more you do, the better the results. The other brand to look at who also offer medically certified home-use LED devices are Celluma, so take a look at them, too.

Hi Alice. I’m hoping you can help me as I’ve had so many different opinions. I’m looking for some honest advice; I am 60 (just gone), active, fit and use Medik8 skincare with a few other bits thrown in. I’m looking to have some treatments and torn in advice between HIFU and EMSculpt Neo. Have you any experience of both and if possible, would you give me your opinion please? Many thanks in advance.

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. It really depends on what your concerns are and what sort of results you’re looking for. HIFU is more often than not a facial treatment, while Emsculpt Neo is for the body, so do you want to treat your face or your body? The best thing to do would be to book in with a fab practitioner near you for a consultation. That way you can get all your questions answered and have a proper assessment.

How can I find out about Sunekos? Is it like Profhilo?

Hi, you can look on their website for details about the treatment. Some practitioners love it as a skin booster or injectable moisturiser that works differently to Profhilo as it contains amino acids, the building blocks of collagen, as well as hyaluronic acid and it can be used around the eyes and across the forehead.

What do you think about HArmonyCA?

It’s fascinating – a new type of filler that’s a hybrid between a class hyaluronic-acid filler that provides soft volume, and an ingredient that stimulates the face to make more of its own collagen, and improves the skin at the same time. I’ve had a couple of rounds of it in my face and it is sitting very nicely and softening out hollow bits in my lower cheeks.

Best skin-tightening option please Alice – HIFU (any sort?), Sofwave or Emface? I am 52 years old

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. It’s hard to say as they all work differently and have different merits depending on the exact indications and your individual face. I’d book in for a consultation with a practitioner who offers a good selection of options and get their opinion.

What can be done about dark/ age spots on the backs of my hands? Should I use my retinoid cream? Also, how can I improve the ruddy appearance of my décolleté?

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. I’d get a hand cream specially formulated for age spots on the hands that contains pigment-reducing ingredients. Opt for one with sun protection too and make sure you apply it liberally throughout the day. And whenever you’re out in the sun or on holiday make sure you’re slapping on the sunscreen, as sun exposure will only make the existing age spots worse and cause new patches to develop. Tweakments-wise, IPL or a professional skin peel can get rid of them. For your decolletage, try IPL or laser to reduce the redness, plus a couple of rounds of injectable moisturiser treatment to brighten the skin and improve its texture.

Please could you review the new Spring Thread? It is supposed to have more longevity and superior lift but is there a big risk as it is not dissolvable? I have also heard it may bunch. Thank you for all your help.

I haven’t done any stories around spring threads but I’m going to be filming soon with a threads expert and will see what I can find out.

What do you recommend – Profhilo or Restylane Skinboosters? They both seem the same or are they different?

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. They’re both hyaluronic acid-based injectable moisturisers that are composed slightly differently and have different treatment protocols. Number of treatments needed and price will also differ. You can find out more about the specific differences here and by downloading our free Injectable Moisturisers e-book, which can also be found on that page.

Hi there, which do you recommend for an over-55 year old – Tixel, microneedling or HIFU for nasolabial folds? Don’t mind a bit of downtime or pain. Don’t want to use fillers. Thanks!

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. Of those three, Tixel – in its most intensive mode, which is the ablative mode – would be most likely to have a good crack at softening nasolabial folds if you want to avoid filler. There’s quite a bit of downtime though, and (as with anything) you’d need a full-face treatment to contract the skin upwards away from gravity’s pull. Find a great practitioner who can advise you on what will be best for your particular face.

I’m looking to tighten my neck and jowls. Can you advise which gives the best results between the following treatments – Morpheus 8, Profound, and NeoGen Plasma? Also have you heard of Facetite (a fine probe in place under the skin to tighten).

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. What will give you the best result depends on your neck and jowls specifically – how much sagging you have, if it’s skin or fat – and other factors like budget, how much downtime you’re willing to deal with, etc. Morpheus8 and Profound are RF needling devices that can be used in a certain way to melt fat at the same time as tightening up the overlying skin via stimulating collagen production, but if there’s a fair bit of fat in addition to skin laxity, you’d be better off going with Facetite because liposuction can be done at the same time. Find a great practitioner who can advise you what will be best for your particular face.

Hi Alice. I have read about Ellevate for neck treatments. I think it’s quite new. Do you have any information on it?

Hiya, TTG editor Georgia here. It looks to essentially be a thread lift procedure to contour the jaw and neck, so could be a good solution for sagging skin in that area that needs some structural support and tightening. I don’t know loads about it but there are some TTG-registered practitioners who offer it, like Dr Munir Somji of Dr MediSpa in London and Essex.
