Anti-acne Serums
There are lots of different anti-acne serums available on the market. One of the most effective is beta hydroxy acid (BHA/salicylic acid). This is because it is oil-soluble and can get into the pores, decongesting them at the same time as calming down redness because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Serums containing retinol are also good for acne as they can help to reduce oil production by shrinking the oil glands. Other ingredients to look out for in anti-acne serums include: niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3), which reduces oil production and inflammation; benzoyl peroxide, which helps exfoliate pores and kill the bacteria that can cause spots; alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which have a superficial exfoliating effect on the skin which can prevent pores from blocking up and becoming inflamed and serums that reduce inflammation such as Epigallocatechin-3-gallate,growth factor serums and serums containing anti-oxidants such as vitamins C and E.
