Why might you be interested in REFYNE?
You might be interested in REFYNE if your face has developed mild to moderate lines and wrinkles that you want to minimise. REFYNE’s softness and flexibility enable the practitioner to deliver subtle and natural-looking results.
If you have deeper lines and wrinkles, consider treatment with Restylane DEFYNE rather than REFYNE. DEFYNE is a filler with a firmer consistency than REFYNE, so DEFYNE can provide stronger lift and support than REFYNE can.
How does a REFYNE treatment work?
Before the treatment, you meet with the practitioner so they can examine your facial structure, learn your medical history and your aesthetic goals, and agree a treatment plan with you.
For the treatment, the practitioner cleanses your skin thoroughly, and then injects REFYNE into the treatment area or areas using either a fine needle or a cannula (a thin, flexible tube). After injecting the filler, the practitioner may massage the area to distribute and shape the filler as needed.
How long do the results last?
REFYNE lasts for up to 18 months with one re-treatment.
Is treatment with REFYNE painful?
No. Treatment with REFYNE is not painful, but you may experience mild discomfort from the injections. Most formulations of REFYNE include lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to alleviate any discomfort. Confirm with your practitioner that the REFYNE they will use includes lidocaine; if not, you can ask the practitioner to numb the treatment areas beforehand with another form of anaesthetic, such as a numbing cream. If you are concerned about the injections hurting, ask your practitioner to numb the treatment areas beforehand.
Where can REFYNE be used?
REFYNE is typically used to treat mild to moderate lines and wrinkles on your face:
- Nose-to-mouth lines. These lines, known in the trade as ‘nasolabial lines’, run down from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth.
- Lines around your mouth. These lines, which practitioners sometimes refer to as ‘perioral lines’, develop as a result of aging; smiling, laughing, and making expressions; and other factors.
- Marionette lines. These are the lines that run down from each corner of your mouth to your chin.
How long does REFYNE treatment take?
A treatment with REFYNE typically takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on which and how many facial areas you’re having treated.
In some cases, you may need a touch-up treatment a couple of weeks after the initial treatment to give you optimum results.
To maintain your treatment results in the long term, you may want to have a top-up treatment or re-treatment. These treatments would typically use smaller amounts of REFYNE filler — just enough to restore any volume the treatment areas have lost. Consult your practitioner about such top-up treatments and when to have them.
How quickly can you see results from REFYNE treatment?
You will see an immediate effect from REFYNE treatment, because the contours of your face will change from having the filler injected. As any swelling from the injections decreases and the filler settles in your face, you will see the results more clearly.
At what age can you get REFYNE treatment?
You can get REFYNE treatment from the age of 18 in the UK.
How much does a REFYNE treatment cost?
The cost of a REFYNE treatment varies depending on the amount of filler required and the geographical location in which you’re having the treatment. Typical prices start at £250 for a treatment that uses 1ml of REFYNE.
Will I have scars from REFYNE treatment?
No. REFYNE is a noninvasive treatment and causes no scars.
Are there side-effects from REFYNE treatment?
REFYNE treatment has minimal downtime and modest side effects. Most patients are able to resume their normal activity the same day, so if you have a lunchtime appointment, you could go back to work that afternoon.
You may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising in the area treated. These side effects will usually disappear within a week; if not, consult your practitioner for advice.
What is the aftercare advice following a REFYNE treatment?
After having REFYNE injections, be gentle with the treatment areas, and apply concealer as needed:
- Give the treatment areas time to settle down rather than applying make-up to them immediately.
- About 24 hours after the treatment, you can apply a light cover-up if needed.
- If you have remaining redness, try a concealer with a slight green or yellow tone. If you have bruising, try a yellow-toned concealer.
Your practitioner may also advise you to avoid vigorous exercise for the first few days after having REFYNE injections.
Who makes REFYNE?
REFYNE is manufactured and marketed by Galderma, a pharmaceutical company with a worldwide presence and more that 6,000 employees. REFYNE is part of Galderma’s Restylane brand of hyaluronic acid fillers, which also includes Restylane LYFT, Restylane DEFYNE, and Restylane KYSSE. Who are dermal fillers not suitable for?

- Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid having dermal fillers while you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Younger than 18. Dermal fillers are generally not recommended if your body is still growing.
- Active skin infections. Clear up any active skin infections, such as acne or cold sores, before having dermal fillers.
