How to treat really deep obvious acne scars on the nose. Have had 2 sessions of fractional laser. Have done many carbon laser facials. Have just had one session of RF micro needling but no change. Know it will take a few sessions also made me break out a lump came up on one side. The break out has gone now. Just so disappointing. Really life destroying atm. Can go to interview /dates etc friends comment it’s hell. Sorry :( .

Hello! TTG Content Coordinator Si Yau here. So sorry to hear that this is affecting you so badly. Have you had a look at our acne scarring  concerns page which has FAQs, a video and Alice’s e-book full of more information? It also may be best to further discuss this with your practitioner or seek a second opinion. We also list practitioners on our site, to find those who specialise in acne, you can search ‘acne’ or ‘acne scarring’ in search bar and practitioners should come up. I hope this helps!

Hi I have deep lines on my chest which I absolutely hate. What do you recommend to get rid of them as much as possible?

Hello! TTG Content Coordinator Si Yau here. There are many tweakments available to tackle lines and wrinkles available. It is extremely important that you find an excellent practitioner who can properly assess your concerns and offer further advice. Deeper and more pronounced wrinkles and folds are challenging to treat but here are a few tweakments options:

Injectables – Injectable treatments that can address lines and wrinkles include toxins and dermal fillers, PRP and collagen stimulators. toxins works by inhibiting the function of the muscles which cause dynamic wrinkles in areas such as the forehead and around the eyes, whereas fillers work to replace lost volume and structure at deeper levels of the skin. Some injectables, such as PRP and collagen stimulators, as well as products like Profhilo, work by stimulating the body’s own repair mechanisms and rejuvenate the skin from within.

Energy based devices – Wrinkles are also the main target of many energy-based devices such as HIFU/ultrasound, laser resurfacing, radiofrequecy. While all of these technologies work in different ways the principle is the same, using heat/energy to create a wound healing response in the skin which encourages the production of new collagen. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) can also be used to treat fine wrinkles.

Microneedling/collagen induction therapy – Microneedling involves the use of tiny needles to make minute holes in the skin. This is usually done using a pen or roller device. It is also known as “collagen induction therapy” (CIT) because it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. It is minimally-invasive and can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars.

What is your thoughts on threads for a neck lift? Do they work?

Hello! TTG Content Coordinator Si Yau here, threads can be incredibly effective if you are the right candidate and only in the hands of an experienced practitioner. If you want to explore other tweakments that could also help the neck, take a look at our neck wrinkles page for FAQs, a video and Alice’s e-book full of more information.

2 practitioners who are excellent with threads that we would recommend are:

Dr Leah Totton

Dr Victoria Manning & Dr Charlotte Woodward

Which treatment is best for hyperpigmentation due to sun damage? IPL or chemical peel? I live in Barbados and that’s all that’s available here. Thanks!!

Hi, I’d find the most experienced dermatologist or other cosmetic physician on the island and ask for their advice – and also plan carefully how, if you go ahead with treatment, you are going to protect your treated skin from the sun. In the UK, it’s best to do these things in the winter; you will have to commit to buckets of SPF 50 and a hat afterwards to minimise further pigmentation developing.

Dear Alice, thanks again for an always fantastic information guide. I finally made of my mind and decided to have toxin, got an appointment and went to the consultation. It’s a great but.. a little voice inside is still a little nervous, especially since most of my deeper set wrinkles are over and above my eyebrows. I’m worried that either my eye lid will “fall” or look too artificial lifted.. any good advice ? And of course any good advice for first time toxin? Do and don’t? Thanks 🙏

Hi, that’s completely understandable to be anxious ahead of trying any tweakment. Have you discussed these particular concerns with your practitioner? If you have, I hope they would have reassured you that they have enough skill and experience to place the toxin in just the right places so that it will soften your wrinkles without wiping them out, and without making your brows drop. Also, first time, it’s good idea to ask for a really light dose, just enough to give you an idea of what the treatment can do. It won’t last as long as a regular dose, but if for any reason you don’t like the results, then you aren’t stuck with it for so long. See if the information on this section about wrinkle-relaxing toxins helps.

Can I ask what you think of the Skin Laundry company, its memberships and in particular its Ultra Duo facial? Many thanks

Hi, Skin Laundry offers some great treatments, though I haven’t tried any of them for a while. I can’t comment on its membership offers or the Ultra Duo – but I know the company uses top-quality devices and their therapists are well-trained.

Im looking for a collagen supplement but Dermacare is too expensive

Absolute Collagen, Revive Collagen, Ingenious Collagen and Gold Collagen are all more affordable and use decent types/ sources of collagen and have reasonable data to support their efficacy, so have a look at those.

You need 8,000=10,000mg of hydrolysed collagen per day to make a difference so take that into consideration when looking for a collagen supplement.

What are the top 3 collagen supplements to date and is it best to take in a powder, tablet or drink?

You need 8,000=10,000mg of hydrolysed collagen per day to make a difference, and the brand I’m keen on (because of the studies they have done, and because they have two patented molecules, one for collagen, one for hyaluronic acid, that work synergistically in the formula) is Totally Derma. You can find more on why I like this brand here.

If you are on a budget – Absolute Collagen, Revive Collagen, Ingenious Collagen and Gold Collagen are all more affordable than Totally Derma, use decent types/ sources of collagen and have reasonable data to support their efficacy, so have a look at those too.

I wonder what your thoughts are on Neofound please?

Hi, it looks like a new kind of mesotherapy product ie an injectable for improving the condition of the skin, which is different to injectable moisturiser treatments. I haven’t seen any data about how well it works and how effective it is.
